The name assigned to Tyga at birth is Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson. He was born in Compton, California on November 19, 1989. You can tell from his name that he has a mixed origin. If you guessed that, then you are right. Tyga parents married interracially.
According to him, he was raised in Compton till he was 11 years old before he moved to Gardena. He attested to have; listened to Eminem, Lil Wayne, Cam’ron, Fabolous a lot while growing up
Who are Tyga’s Parents?
Tyga’s parents’ information is sparse. He is quite discreet about family. We do not even know who his siblings are. But we know his mother was born in Vietnam and has the maiden name, Nguyen.
About his father, we do not enough information about him, as Tyga barely mentions him in interviews he grants. However, we know he is of Jamaican descent. This means Tyga is of Jamaican-Vietnamese descent.
About his upbringing, rumours claimed he was raised in a well-to-do home, and that his parents drove a Range Rover. This is opposed to his regular hammering of coming from a low socioeconomic area of Compton.
Tyga’s Career
His career didn’t start on a palatable level, as he had to release several demo tapes and mixtapes to get recognition. Well, in 2007, luck shone on him. His debut mixtape, Young on Probation got the attention of his cousin, Travie McCoy, a relatively successful musician.
McCoy offered young Tyga a record deal with independent label DCD2 Records, which was then known as Decaydence Records. After a short stint with the records, he signed with G.E.D (Getting Educated Daily) Inc.
It was this same label that kickstarted the career of Tyga’s homeboy, Schoolboy Q. The duo collaborated a lot in their early career. Quick fact: Have you ever wondered what that G.E.D tattoo that is above Tyga’s right eyebrow? Well, just to be clear, it is not a cryptic sign.
His first independent album, No Introduction, released on Decaydence Records did pretty well. At least, one of the songs in the album, “Diamond Life”, found its way into video games Need for Speed: Undercover and Madden NFL 2009. As if that was not enough, it also made an appearance in the 2009 movie, Fighting.
Tyga’s Big Break
Tyga’s big break came when the hottest label at the time, Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment, a subsidiary of Cash Money Records, signed him up in late 2008. Lil Wayne and Tyga met in 2008 at the VMA, where Tunechi performed his songs.
His first appearance as a new Young Money label came in a feature on the song “Bedrock.” Soon, he released a mixtape, Fan of a Fan with his closest friend, Chris Brown and DJ Rockstar. It had other artists such as Bow Wow, Kevin McCall, and Lil Wayne.
The mixtape didn’t do too well. Except for Deuces which featured Chris Brown, became a hit. It reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs. It got nominated for Best Rap/Song Collaboration at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
So far, Tyga has released seven albums including No Introduction in 2008, Careless World: Rise of the Last King in 2012, Hotel California in 2013, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty in 2015, BitcImTheShit2 in 2015, Kyoto in 2018. His last album to date is Legendary released in 2019.
He has also had a collaborative album with his friend and superstar artiste, Chris Brown that was relatively successful. The album was titled Fan of a Fan: The Album in 2015. You know how people always talk about the impact of their parents either negative or positive, well, for Tyga’s parents, there is barely a mention of them in his music.
Tyga’s Porn Foray
Even though he didn’t perform any sexual act in the pornographic movie he co-directed with Justice Young. Fortunately, the movie, Rack City: The XXX Movie, was a multi-AVN-nominated film.

Tyga’s Relationship
After meeting with Blac Chyna at the F.A.M.E tour After Party with Chris Brown at King of Diamonds in Miami in October 2011, the two clicked. They became an official couple on November 9, 2011, after they announced they were seeing each other.
It was love at first sight. Chyna would go to become the leading lady on Tyga’s music video “Rack City.” They became the talk of the town, even appearing on the cover of Urban Ink magazine in March 2012. They have a son together, King Cairo Stevenson.
This new member of the family pushed Tyga to purchase a $6.5 million mansion in California. After three years, the couple separated much to the dismay of fans who think they looked like a power couple.
Moving on, Tyga started a relationship with supermodel, Kylie Jenner. The age difference also sparked debate over the relationship as they started dating when Jenner was barely 16.
For the record, the legal age of consent in California is 18, so you can understand the uproar from the media. Anyways, the couple split in 2017.
Tyga is not in any relationship as at the time of writing this. Perhaps, he decided to be private would be beneficial, who knows.
