Zion attended Spartanburg Day School. It was here his journey to being one of the hottest basketballers in the world began. At Spartanburg, he claimed as many individual awards that can be found. He was ranked among the top five players in the 2018 class.
He also led his team to three straight state championships and was South Carolina Mr. Basketball in his senior season. Before leaving high school, he was a runner-up for Mr. Basketball USA, and USA Today All-USA first-team honoree.
