Allen, a construction worker, got home after a very hectic day to meet his wife, Brenda Lafferty, in a pool of her blood and his 15-month-old baby, Erica, dead in her little crib. To make matters worse, the killers disconnected the phone lines for him not to reach the authorities on time. Seeing that he might still get the chance to help his family, he reached out to his neighbors to call the authorities. Disturbed and not knowing what to do, he returned to the ground where his wife lay and tried to pray. On arrival at the scene, police arrested Allen, thinking he was the prime suspect. But after some quick investigations, Allen was released. The construction worker then pointed to his brother, Ron Lafferty, for the crimes. So why is Ron Lafferty the first person Allen considered to be the murderer of his wife and kid? Well, the story unfolds as you read on.
Allen Lafferty’s Brothers Hated His Wife
You ask yourself, what kind of brothers hate their sister-in-law so severely that they thought killing her would remove the hatred? There is nothing to see but psychopathy on full display. The brothers are members of the Latter-Day Saints, a cult-like religious organization that goes all the way to enforce what they believe in most times. Ron and Dan murdered Brenda Lafferty, and their reason was simple but very inhumane – God had willed them to do it. In an interview with Desert News, Ron and Dan didn’t feel any remorse for the murders. Instead, the two strongly believed that they were in the right.
How Did Allen Lafferty band Brenda Lafferty Meet?
Allen met Brenda at a Latter-Day Saints assembly in Utah. Brenda fell in love with Allen at the first ask. Even though Brenda had been with many men, as her sister Betty revealed in an interview, no one blew her mind like Allen. They bloomed with their love, but the brothers were not in support. Why? Brenda had helped Allen see that the family was on a dangerous path to extremism. This made the brothers see Brenda as their enemy. Brenda stood up to the brothers and Allen, telling him she was not comfortable with him doing what they did.
This made the brothers spin the story and say she was trying to break down their family. The feud became bigger and even had religious undertones. For instance, Dan, Allen’s brother, told him that Brenda and her baby needed to “be removed in rapid succession that an example is made of them.” Perhaps he could have done better with this information and informed his wife about the brothers’ plan. He didn’t. For some people, he is partly to be blamed for the murders.

So, he forced himself into the house, and after overpowering Brenda, he tied a rope around her neck to kill Erica. After killing her, he then strangled the 15-month baby to death. In Nevada, the police arrested the brothers while in line for a buffet on August 7, 1984.
Interestingly, Dan represented himself during the trial and even advised the jury not to be scared to give him the death penalty.
